COMPOSER
david hermann grew up whistling complex melodies in dark german forests before moving to england on his own at the age of 16 because he wanted to wear tweed. he started singing his own lyrics and playing the guitar when he was seven and has been perfecting his skills ever since. since the age of 19 david has composed music for several tv production companies in germany and switzerland, steadily amassing an impressive portfolio. he released an album with his band sherry black and the port authority in 2008 and has played around most of london, for instance at rakehell’s revels in cafe royal and at the spitz. in 2007 david collaborated with DEF on a music video for his own excellent song sweetshop. since then he has worked as a composer on bowler hat, everyone’s a little monkey, girl blue running shoe, corporates and most recently their latest venture his uterus; her lover. during this time his talents caught the eye of other production companies and he has since been commissioned to compose for several external productions. david is a fully funded literary scholar who in 2010 graduated with a first degree from UCL’s MA comparative literature programme, where he is currently pursuing his PhD in comparative literature and cognitive science. his poetry has been published in litro, among others, and his screenplay and then we’ll be heroes was shortlisted for the screenwriting award at the international festival of animated film in stuttgart 2011. samples of his academic work on the translation of post-war german poetry and on the american short story, as well as his songwriting, may be found on his website
